We have a problem with that because we've never met an "average" family. The next time you go to work look around you - you're not the same as everyone else. If you like to cook, the average kitchen will be too small and it won't have the best features. If you prefer to microwave your meals and eat in front of the tv, the average kitchen will be too big and you will spend too much money on it.
Average garages are always built with the standard one or two outlets, but what if you really enjoy mechanics or woodworking? You'll probably want an outlet every 2-4 feet and maybe even one or two in the floor.
